The Truth & Origin of the Flock of Seagulls Hair

So, you've seen the Flock of Seagulls Wig being sold for $20 and must have wondered who came up with the Flock of Seagulls hairstyle?

The Flock of Seagulls Hair got its name from A Flock of Seagulls, a band originally formed in Liverpool by two brothers, Michael Score (Mike) and Alister James Score (Ali).

Mike who used to be a hairdresser before starting the new wave and synthpop band in 1980 has been a flock of seagull lead singer and is usually found behind the keyboards.

As the story goes...

Just before a show one night, Mike was right in front of a mirror trying to imitate David Bowie's poof-mullet 'do from the ziggy stardust days'.

The bassist, Frank Maudsley who also wanted some mirror time, in the scuffle, put his hand on Mike’s head, smashing the singer’s poof down in the middle.

Alas, the Flock of Seagulls Hair was born.

It is worth knowing that A Flock of Seagulls isn't just "that band with the hair". A number of their songs in the early and mid-80s could attest to that.

Some rockin' that got the crowd wailing.

Some of their notable songs are Wishing (If I Had A Photograph of You), Space Age Love Song, I Ran (So Far Away),  and The More You Live The More You Love

For the record, I Ran (So Far Away) Currently has over 30 million views on Youtube

Though there have been some changes in the band member, till this day, the band still makes music together although Mike Score who is still a flock of seagull's lead singer released a solo album back in 2014. '

Maybe it was the best of days, maybe it was the worst, but no doubt it was a time like no other. It was the 80s and both the Iconic Synthpop and the awesomely ridiculous hair had its mark.
